The studio at Blue Flag is a relaxed space offering a variety of classes and events. Whether you are a brand-new weaver, a one more experienced or someone interested in other textile techniques, there’s a class for you! Be inspired, have fun, and gain the confidence you need to tackle any project.

FREE Informal Handspinning
Every other Thursday – 12:30 until 3:30 PM

March 21, April 4, April 18 . . . Get help improving your spinning skills or just come to spin and socialize. Every other Thursday from 12:30 until 4:00 PM, both experienced and new spinners are invited to take part in FREE open spinning. No need to sign up in advance – Just bring your wheel and join us!


Introduction to Rug Weaving

Wool Rag Rug

During this six-week class you will weave four small rug projects while thoroughly exploring rug warp options, setts and threadings for various results, weft materials (often free or very inexpensive) and finishing techniques. This class is a perfect next step for those who have completed a very beginning class or for anyone interested in successfully weaving rugs.

$155.00 includes warp yarns for all projects. Students will supply weft materials and use their own looms at home to weave assignments for this class.

Chenille fabric

Chenille yarns make interesting, luxurious-feeling fabrics but it can weave quite differently than other yarns, sometimes seeming to take on a life of its own! In this one-day workshop you’ll explore using rayon, cotton and synthetic chenille yarns on their own and in conjunction with other yarn. Information will be included on warping, weaving, finishing and sewing woven chenille fabric. Students will each weave or begin weaving a chenille scarf and weave samples of other chenille fabric.

$145.00 includes all materials. Optional loom rental $35.00

Workshop includes pre-class instructions to bring your own loom ready to weave, a short lecture on designing and weaving shadow weave and plenty of informational handouts. You supply yarn in the colors and fiber of your choice.

Third in a new series of one-day workshops designed to provide weavers with opportunities to complete weaving projects in a fun, supportive environment. Workshop includes pre-class instructions to bring your own loom ready to weave, a short lecture on weaving two layers of cloth at once (doubleweave – no sewing!) and plenty of informational handouts. You supply yarn in the colors and fiber of your choice.

Very beginning handweaver

In this two-day class, designed for brand new weavers, you will weave your first project start to finish while learning how to use a four-harness loom. The completion of a beautiful and useful wool scarf provides a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Class is limited to 4 students. Absolutely no prior weaving experience needed.

$175.00 includes all materials and use of a loom and other equipment

Arrange a Weaving Class To Fit Your Schedule

One-on-one Beginning Four-Shaft Weaving

Approximately 10 hours of individualized instruction designed for brand new weavers, plus 10 additional hours of use of the Blue Flag studio and equipment. This class covers the same topics as the Very Beginning Weaving class but at your own pace and on a schedule that meets your needs.

Private Weaving Instruction: All Levels

Private weaving instruction is available to help you work out a problem or start from the beginning! Please keep in mind that weaving can not be learned in an hour or even in a day; you need to have some time to devote in order to master the technicalities of the craft. You will receive a lot of personal attention in classes at Blue Flag because class sizes are very small. However, if you want help with a specific topic, or can’t find a class on the schedule that suits your needs and interests, private instruction may be for you!
